Opera Fest At Masada – June 2015

Opera At Masada Under The Stars

This year’s exciting Opera Fest at Masada will feature two world renown operas; Tosca and Carmina Burana. Imagine the beauty of enjoying the opera, under the stars with the backdrop of the ancient fortress of Masada.

Tosca, set in Rome during the 1800’s while Napoleon Bonaparte’s army advances toward the city, is heart wrenching saga about love, jealousy, deceit and torture. Character Floria Tosca finds her heart divided between the love of two and uses her beauty to seduce the chief of police to spare the life of one of her lovers, only to discover she has been duped.

Dates for this opera are June 4, 6, 11 and 13.

The name, Carmina Burana, taken from the Latin, “Songs of Beuren” is a collection of songs and poems written by Benedictine Monks in Bavaria in the 13th century. The collection was published in 1847 and in 1934 Carl Orff  along with Latin scholar Michael Hofmann, chose 24 pieces from the collection and created the music for the opera Carmina Burana.

Dates for this opera are June 10 and 12.
